Did You Know About The 18° Rule?

18 degree rule

Did You Know About The 18° Rule?

Did you know, as a general rule, that increasing the temperature of a chemical reaction 18°F (10°C) effectively doubles the rate of that reaction.

In more practical terms, if you are cleaning at 150° F and it takes an hour to complete a wash, raising the temperature of the cleaning solution to 168° could shorten the cleaning time down to 30 minutes. Raising that temperature to 186° could shorten it further downward to 15 minutes.

If time is money, this simple increase in productivity will allow for more washing in less time, thereby increasing revenues!hot-water-clean

Consider the time it takes to clean your dishes after animal fats cloud on the surface. Running cold water on the dish’s surface will yield poor results. But when going from cold to hot water, almost 100% soil removal is achieved. At this point only a slight detergent is needed, just to insure that the final film is emulsified and easily rinsed.

Remember, it is a GENERAL rule, not an absolute one, and other factors besides temperature could come into play so it may not always work as predicted.
